Collections
On August 6th, 2014, we entered the Tavern for the first time as owners of the historic property. Most items of value had been removed, but a few pieces remained. Since that day, we have done what we could to preserve what was left in the building. Additionally, over the years we have been gifted memorabilia and items from The Old Tavern and Unionville. Most of these items are now either on display or safely stored at our Preservation HQ in Madison Village. We are grateful for each piece recieved as they help tell the story of The Old Tavern, and the people who left their mark on the building and its legacy.
DishesDishes found throughout the Tavern were gathered and stored for safe keeping. The dishes that exist there today are common dishes found in most restaurants. However, not long ago when you dined at the Tavern, your dinner was served on a beautiful patterened plate. We have collected some of those plates which are now kept at our Preservation HQ.
This blue patterened plate with the Tavern centered was commissioned by Arthur & Hulda Fritz (owners) in the 1930's.

FurnitureWhen we first entered the building, the tables and chairs in the dining rooms and ballroom were set up as if waiting for guests to return. To make way for stabilzation and construction, the furniture has been moved out of the way, and in some cases, brought over to our Preservation HQ to show off.
This roll top and hutch was found in the parlor at the Tavern. The chair is from the main dining room.

MemorabiliaMany of the items in our collections are artifacts from The Old Tavern. These are items that were in the Tavern when we acquired the building or have been gifted to us over the years. We treasure this memorabilia and look forward to returning them back to the Tavern one day!
This version of The Old Tavern sign hung on the building until it was replaced by Vic Porter of The Porter Sign Co. in Geneva, Ohio. He recently passed away, and his family generously donated it to the Society in Vic's name.

PhotographsWe love to receive old photographs of The Old Tavern! Not only do they tell a story about the people who spent time at the Tavern, they provide us with documentation of what the Tavern looked like throughout the years. This will help guide our historic preservation of the building.
