Phase III - Rebuild the North Wall
After some unexpected delays in the project, construction on Phase III began in late 2025 with $125,000 Cultural Facilities Grant from the State of Ohio and matching funds. In this phase we will address the North wall of the main structure of The Old Tavern where there is significant deterioration. For this phase of the project, the Society has contracted with local contractors Custom Moulding & Millwork inc., Cleveland based architectural firm, Perspectus, and Akron based structural engineer, Engineering for Historic Structures.
April 2025Construction in Phase III will concentrate on the North wall, main dining room, and 2nd floor where the main building meets the ballroom.

DemolitionAlthough the goal is to keep and restore as much of the original material as possible, the existing wood siding on the North wall all needed to be replaced.
The fireplace mantle in the main dining has been removed and protected during construction. |

Rebuild & RestoreNew building materials added to replace what was compromised beyond repair. Portions of the structure were adjusted to bring into square and the roof raised 6 inches in where the main building meets the ballroom.

Temporary support walls raised 6 inches to straighten out the roof. Steel posts added to the main dining room next to fireplace.
